Getting There             
The most convenient way of getting to Egypt is by air. Cairo International Airport is the principal 
gateway to the country and is served by most major airlines . It also provides a link between
Europe and destinations in Asia and Africa .Egyptair, the national carrier,  covers all domestic as
well as most international routes . The other main ports of entry are Sharm El Sheikh ( Ras Nasrani
Airport ), Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan and Alexandria. There are passenger ferry services between

most major ports in the Mediterranean, Alexandria and Port Said .

 

   
Visa                
All Visitors require a valid passport and a visa, which may be obtained prior to departure or upon

entry to Egypt. A single -entry visa permits one entry into the country for a stay of one month.

 

Custumes              
Visitors may bring in the following items free of charge : 250 grams of tobacco or 50 cigars and 4

liters of alcohol . Cairo International Airport has a duty-free shop upon arrival.

 

 
Money              
The unit of currency is the Egyptian Pound (L.E.), divided into 100 piasters, and printed in banknote
of 25 and 50 piasters and 1,5,10,20,50,100 and 200 pounds. Foreign currency can be changed at most
banks and authorized exchange offices where the official rate of exchange is posted daily. Major

credit cards are accepted at the larger hotels and in many restaurants and shops.

 

 
Health              
A certificate of vaccination against cholera or yellow fever is required from all visitors who have
within the previous five days been in an infected area. Otherwise, there are no specific health

regulations for entry into Egypt.

 

         
Climate              
Egypt enjoys an excellent climate. The north coast and the Delta have a Mediterranean climate.
The remainder of the country is hot and dry during the summer months (July and August) and
 warm throughout the rest of the year with pleasant mild winters . Summer days can be hot and

 winter nights can be chilly.

 

           
Clothing              
Visitors are recommended to bring cotton garments for summer, and woolen items for the winter .

It is advisable to dress modestly at all times . Comfortable footwear is recommended.

 

 
Electricity              

The voltage is 220 volts. Power sockets are of the two-pronged  European continental type.

 

Language              

Arabic is the national language. English is widely spoken in hotels, shops and restaurants.

 

Working Hours            
Banks are open from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm daily, except Fridays and Saturdays. Government
offices operate from 9 am to 2 pm except Fridays and holidays . Museums are usually closed on
Fridays between 11 am and 1:30 pm .Shops are opened from 10 am to 9 pm .
